I think having the pagination option to lazy load the items as well as pages would be a great asset to the pagination feature.  Also, while it's possible to number the items with a little custom code, with the current pagination the numbers start from 1 on each page whereas if you lazy load them they will continue counting up giving every item in the collection set to display in the result a number.  Of course, implementation of this for the search results page would be really nice too!
