It would be great if the dropdown menu opened and closed smoothly like they do for mobile (or had to option to do so).
When working in mobile there's an Easing open: and Easing close: option. This is not there for desktop. A dropdown menu easing down looks so much better than just appearing.
Messing with interactions or importing .js is a step too far for this fundamental feature.

It's not the same thing. There's nothing in the custom animations that give you easing open/close (even though you can trigger animations by dropdown opening/closing). Basically this feature exists for a mobile nav menu but for some reason is missing for regular dropdown lists, and there is no clear workaround.

This already exists. It's called a drop-down animation, available in the interaction panels for drop-down menus.
