From the CMS if you create a Plain Text field and choose Multiple line for it's Text Field Type.. The line breaks are sanitized/removed when they're rendered on a collection item.

If this is the default desired behaviour for security reasons, either update the messaging in the Collection admin that let's you know line breaks will be stripped. Or whitelist the BR as as safe element.
