I'd love to see better variable font integration.

With Adobe variable fonts I found that going the custom route creates a flash of unstyled text (FOUT) even though the font is not travelling from Adobe's servers. With a regular Adobe font on Webflow the wf-loading class calls a webfontloader script to mask the transition from unstyled to styled.

I believe Google handles it internally.

This issue is more visible on the first site load, certain browsers, and slower internet connections.

It's unfortunate that the issue is solved with older style fonts, but not implemented here.
