Hello WebFlow Team,
You have probably all noticed the current drama surrounding WordPress. I think now is the perfect time to offer WebFlow as a self-hosting option as well. What made WordPress so successful? It allows users to self-host or choose their own hosting provider freely. WebFlow can still have costs; users would no longer pay directly for hosting with WebFlow but for using WebFlow and regular updates. This would make WebFlow a strong competitor to WordPress in the current climate, and many people would switch to WebFlow.
Thank you for sharing this suggestion and highlighting an important perspective around the current landscape. While we understand the appeal of self-hosting and recognize that flexibility was indeed a significant factor in WordPress's growth, Webflow is fundamentally designed around the benefits of a fully managed, cloud-based service. Our belief is that the greatest value we provide—such as streamlined hosting, security, performance optimization, regular automatic updates, and ease of use—stems directly from our cloud infrastructure.
By maintaining a cloud-based approach, we can continuously innovate, rapidly deploy new features, ensure consistent user experiences, and offer dedicated support more effectively. Moving towards self-hosting would limit our ability to guarantee the reliability and quality of service that our customers expect.
We greatly appreciate your input, and we remain committed to enhancing our platform to best serve the Webflow community's evolving needs.
