schedule Collection Items to be published at a later date. For example, set a date in the future for a blog post to be published. It would also be nice to have an un-publish date, so collection item (e.g. Blog) is removed when the date is in the past

Spot on. For me the important part is the unpublish date - when events have happened!

Yes, we seriously need the ability to input the date/time of a future published post if there isn't already a more streamlined way of doing so.
