Improve rich text editor in CMS
Merged
There are various other posts asking for specific rich text improvements, but frankly the whole editor needs a major upgrade. These are the key points to note:
- The only level of functionality that currently exists as an editor is two forms of basic bullet points, bold and italics.
- Copy and pasting from Microsoft Word, which is the most popular global word processing tool, both for the home user and more importantly by corporations, is a nightmare. I know it is easier to use Google Docs, but that is not the tool most people use!
- Subscript and superscript is required.
- The ability to insert a table is paramount.
- The levels of indentation and spacing for bullets and paragraphs is virtually non-existent and trying to get it right is a painful experience!
- The alignment of text, paragraphs and images with each other is also not user friendly.
- The ability to incorporate colours for specific words/ paragraphs straight from the editor would be great!
- The specific sizing of images from the editor would also be helpful.
There are so many other improvements that could be made. I do hope that this whole feature will be implemented as currently I and I am sure many other heavy users of the CMS editor, are wasting HUGE amounts of time implementing the info and getting it right.
I know some of the above has been requested elsewhere on the Wishlist, but really they should all be merged together, perhaps into this post.
Shipped—Apply superscript or subscript formatting to your text
We need the ability to insert a table in the CMS!!!!!!
This is a packed Wishlist item!
I'm breaking this out into related Wishlist items for clarity and better tracking, captured elsewhere (and so we can update interested parties when we fix it :)! )
Adding more based on requests.
I'm a little shocked that his request is still looming 3 years later - with multiple related ideas in the right column over there also adding to the votes. This seems like it would be a no-brainer. You have a cool "Grid 2.0" that is a great selling feature, but basic things like this are still at 1.0 - and frustrating to discover after signing up thinking it's common sense.
I'm a fan of giving the clients only what they really need. So, it would be great if Editor toolbar buttons could be activated and deactivated in the site's settings.
SUB and SUPERscript are a basic must! Clients just can't comprehend how this isn't available. Particularly bad for clients with more scientific texts.
This post was written TWO years ago (by me) and literally nothing has changed to ease this process. Yes, the CMS editor needs a total overhaul but I would have expected at least SOME improvements over the past two years.
Come on Webflow, your product is so good but please consider this as a key focus for improvement over the coming months, if it's not in the pipe already.
Is this in the works?
Textbox.io or TinyMCE for Rich Text Editing?
PLEASE consider updating the editor Rich Text Field in the CMS Editor. This feature is NEEDED for a better end user experience.
I LOVE Webflow but the Editor could use a few simple tweaks ESPECIALLY when is come to editing formatted text in Rich Text fields. ALL I am asking for is an editor (JUST LIKE THE ONE I AM USING NOW IN THIS WISHLIST) where the client can easily format there text without trying to figure out the HTML Tags, or where they can EASILY Copy & Paste their MS Word or Doc content without the formatting skewing.
Currently, when attempting to paste content from a document the editor seems to change their text, randomly adding and removing line breaks and spaces, causing them to have to practically retype all of the content in the field the entire field.
I would also add a capability to wrap text in <span> and adding classes/ids to any element on the rich text editor.
Please Webflow Gods, make this a reality.
Copy-pasting from Google Doc or Dropbox Paper is also a nightmare as blockquotes go haywire, all spaces inbetween paragraphs become empty paragraphs, and links break.
We were waiting for so long to have more control over the image dimensions, that end up with own solution. Feel free to reuse, request features or contribute:

"The ability to insert a table is paramount." - this alone should be enough reason to improve the rich text editor.
Check any half decent CMS out there and you can do way more than Webflow currently allows
Agreed. The current CMS Rich Text editor is laughable and the support guidance is usually to just not use CMS for the target feature ("build a custom page") or to code around it yourself.
Rich text editor must support text centring and all the other things that Wordpress editor allows to do.
A back arrow button to revert changes in editor is a must have.
And also a publish button should change it's state to save when settings are unsaved and then turn back to publish. Or a separate save button.
Currently it is very unclear what is going on when editing is done because auto save is only happening when I'm clicking other paragraph or image, i.e. only when I quit currently edited block and that is very confusing. If I just want to add coma in the text I hover over the area, enter the symbol and then I should somehow understand to click outside of the box to get the autosave or try to click on green "published" button which then triggers autosave and changes the button to "Publish", very confusing for my clients as well.
